Nope it should not make one economically inactive. Especially in my case wherein the new employment terms were already agreed upon before I left my previous organisation. The real issue here is OP's lack of understanding of what "economically active" really means.
Does taking a holiday (in UK or abroad) between jobs make one "economically inactive"?
