Maintenance & Accomodation - How to Meet Them?

Post by Twin » Thu Jan 31, 2008 4:00 am

Hi guys,

Sorry for imposing on you again but as ever, I need your assistance/advices one more time (it would be over soon, trust me :D )

I am currently in the middle of preparing my paperwork to return home and apply for the Right of access to a child resident in the UK visa and everything else seems to be in order with the exception of Maintenance.

I have an accomodation (a two bedroom flat) but I have recently resigned from my old job therefore, there is virtually no money coming in. Suprisingly, my ex has been unusually supportive and is now helping with maintenance of our child so the money he gives coupled with the little I have from my previous salaries helps pay the rent and council tax.

Now, that seems like the accomodation bit sorted but of course the requirement states that I have to show that I can accomodate myself and any dependant once in the UK, so my problem is that they would see this as third party support which I understand is no longer acceptable.

My father helps me with some money and friends too but I don't know if this will be acceptable.

I can get a flat mate to share the rent with me but I am worried that the entry clearance would want to know who/where that money is coming from and might not accept it.

I guess my question to you kind people, is suggestions on how to meet these requirements.

Money does come in but the fact that they don't come in from a job is what bothers me and if this would be acceptable.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Twin.

Do you have any savings? Is it possible to get a job for a month or two once you get back home?

Hello Paulp,

I have moderate saving which have reduced since my appeals and of course leaving my job.

How much do you think will be enough savings to satisfy the ECO.

Getting a job in my home country is out of the question as I wouldn't even know where to start. I have been away for too long.

The other question is: Is savings enough?

Are your savings higher or lower than £2000?

Just about £2,000 Paulp. Do you think this will suffice? I thought they would need to see money coming in and going out of my account instead as in salary coming in and out.

You know, they will factor in my rents and taxes and decide is the rest would be enough to maintain both me and my child....non?

To the gurus on the board, is £2,000 savings ok in Twin's case?

Twin, I don't know whether it's enough as you won't have the salary of a spouse to draw on. It should help that your ex is giving you maintenance money and you can also submit a budget, how much your living expenses are, etc. etc.

Under this right of access to a child, are you allowed to work? If yes, can you get a letter from your ex employer or another one that they are willing to give you a job when you come back?

Thanks for your reply, Paulp.

Yes, as far as I understand, work is allowed.

Even if i'm able to draw funds from a spouse or partner, I doubt if this would be accepted as the requirements are solely on me???

Further input will be appreciated.

Thanks all.
