standard visitor visa pls advise

Post by karmi1 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 11:01 pm

hi everybody. i want to invite my mum to visit us in the UK. She was here 2 years ago and there was a family visitor visa. I started to look for the new visa application and noticed there is a standard visitor visa now hence my questions are:
1. do i have to reply 3 months in advance not several weeks in advance as it used to be before?
2. if i apply for 6 month visa how many days she can stay in the UK on this visa?
3. what is a difference between 2 years visa and 6 months visa? ( as last time i applied for her 2 years visa and we got just 6 month visa for 6 months visit and i paid more than £400 hence now i am looking really skeptically at this 2 years visa now)
4. my mum is 69, will be 70 soon, are there any soft rules for older visitors applying for a visa to the UK?
5. earlier the application form asked for the visas in the passport-their issue date and up to which day , now they ask how many days the visitor used to me in the Uk before..i dont remember.any advice on it?

additional info: we are British, she didnt have any problems applying for visas before, my mum is 69.

You can apply whenever but not more than 3 months in advance of traveling.
2. if i apply for 6 month visa how many days she can stay in the UK on this visa?
How long will you state on the form that she will be visiting? 6 months is not a 'visit' it is 'residing'.
3. what is a difference between 2 years visa and 6 months visa? ( as last time i applied for her 2 years visa and we got just 6 month visa for 6 months visit and i paid more than £400 hence now i am looking really skeptically at this 2 years visa now)
A two year visa is just that, valid for two years BUT she cannot stay in the UK for 2 years. She is still subject to the no more than 180 days in any 12 month cycle.
4. my mum is 69, will be 70 soon, are there any soft rules for older visitors applying for a visa to the UK?
No, there are no 'softer rules' for older visitors. If anything, they are more difficult to get now.
5. earlier the application form asked for the visas in the passport-their issue date and up to which day , now they ask how many days the visitor used to me in the Uk before..i dont remember.any advice on it?
Suggest you find the information (flight tickets, passports stamps) because I can guarantee you that UKVI/HO will have this information and if you do not answer honestly, it is deception.

thank you for such a quick reply.

she is not going to stay here, no way- we are cool on skype-but under one roof naah ...... - i was more interested if the visa is multi use as we wanted her to visit us twice-in summer and maybe for Christmas holidays for some days and if she won't be able to visit us in summer ( you know gaaaarrrden) so we can still have a valid visa for Christmas.
in summer i wanted to take her somewhere else abroad so i wanted to know if she could return back with me to the UK or iF she has to return back from the sea holidays straight home?

so if we apply for 6 months visa can she stay 30 days? or how many? so we can plan her 2 times visit-some days in summer and maybe some days in winter. or if it is the single use visa so we can be aware in advance and plan her trip and dates properly.

as per her stamps in the passport they are crazy-so many stamps from travelling abroad during last years-i was living in different countries and she visited me quite regularly either for some events or when i needed her help and support occasionally... it is difficult to track them. i mean more or less it is ok with visits to the UK -not so often , but we lived before the UK in another country and she was younger and visited us quite frequently... and passport is quite old -too many stamps, but i will have to try to calculate the dates...it was much easier just to provide visa's dates as i have the copies of all applications...

so i can apply for a visa now in April/May for June/July trip? not for August?

thank you in advance for your reply.
