Tier 2 Visa Further Enquiries

Dear All,

I submitted a Tier 2 visa application on 7 Sep by Premium service at Sheffield. After the Biometric, I waited for ~2 hours and was handed a letter, saying "application valid but further enquiries needed".

I have been in UK since 2007 as a student and have been offered a research associate job in the University of Sheffield. I submitted the following documents:

1) Bank statements
2) MEng Degree
3) CoS
4) Consent letter from University of Sheffield for PhD financial sponsorship.
5) Passport + BRP (Tier-4)

Could you please tell me if this is usual check by UKVI? Why is it taking so long?
