naturalised UK citizen to transit US under VWP

Post by zyany77 » Mon May 05, 2008 10:12 pm

Hi All

I hope you can help me as I'm very confused.
I remember reading long ago that naturalised british citizens required to apply for a visa.
I'm a mexican national, living in the UK mainland and naturalised british citizen (as stated in my passport). I would like to fly back to Mexico via the US.
I've been reading the UK embassy website for indications, but british citizens with digital and chipped passports can enter under VWP.
Can I transit through the US without a visa using my british passport?
My passport is digital, machine readable and has a chip.
Thank you.

I haven't seen that.

There are no different rules for "automatic" and naturalised citizens that I have come across, so, yes, you can travel with your British passport as long as it has the chip.

yes, it has the chip and digital picture.
Thank you for your help, I was really worried about it!
I remember spoting this problem when applying for the citizenship but haven't come across it since.

Yes, there is no difference in this regard between a naturalised British citizen and any other.

People using the visa waiver scheme are supposed to leave the US and the "contiguous areas" (which includes Mexico) within 90 days, though...

But if I'm also mexican... would this apply?
I don't mean to remain in the US, only to transit ... my onwards journey is to Mexico.

An onward ticket terminating in Mexico should be ok for VWP if you are a "legal resident" of Mexico. Do USCIS include Mexican citizens in this definition?
