ILR and seperation

Post by USAexpat22 » Sun Dec 16, 2018 7:43 pm

I received my ILR in March 2012. In September of this year, I separated from my husband, and I'm now in a new flat. We have a seven year old son who was born in the UK, and I'm the custodial parent. What do I need to report to immigration? I've been in the UK since December 2009. From what I do understand, I have ILR in my own right and I would only need to report the change of address as my ILR isn't contingent on my marriage, but I'm still not sure as the site is a bit vague.

Thanks for any help! :-)

Nothing that needs to be reported to HO.

Oh! That's actually pretty awesome. Do I need to report my change of address though? Just to make sure I get any correspondence?

No you don't.

What 'correspondence' do you believe HO would be sending you if you already have ILR and have no application pending a decision with HO??

I have no idea, lol. I know my biometric permit has an expiry on it (2022), but I think that's just to update the information? I definitely was granted ILR with no restrictions.

Yup, it is only a BRP card renewal, like a drivers license.

Do you not plan on applying for British citizenship??

If I had the money saved, I totally would. It's definitely on the cards as the next step for me :-). Thanks so much for your help! You've immensely set my mind at ease.
