Tier 2 Dependant Visa for Same-Sex Partner - Complex Situation

Post by slps_x95 » Sun Jan 20, 2019 3:24 pm

Hi everyone.
My partner and I are a gay couple from Russia and my partner is about to get a job in the UK, so we want to move there together because, unsurprisingly, we do not really see our future here in Russia.
My partner will be applying for Tier 2 visa (accordingly, I will be applying for a Dependant visa) but there is a serious headache to proving how genuine our relationship is. We have been living together for almost 6 years now except for brief period of 4 months when he was reluctant to move back to his hometown from Moscow but that was really long ago.

As a confirmation of our relationship, we can provide :
1) photographs (although not many of them because of fear that somebody unwanted finds out);
2) bank transfers;
3) passport stamps when entering EU, numerous hotel and flight bookings.

What poses a serious threat to our emigration attempt is a proof of cohabitation. We have indeed been living in the same place together for most of the 6-year period (with exceptions I have already stated above) but I find it very difficult for me to prove that I was here as well. The apartment in which we live is rented and the rental contract is signed only in my partner's name and the landlady does not even know about my existence since our lives would have turned into a nightmare if we tried to rent an apartment as a couple (you know, it's Russia, my friend). Therefore, I have no official document stating that I have been living there and the best I can provide is actually only (ha-ha, funny) delivery receipts with my name (not my partner's) and OUR home address. Also a bunch of photos of us together in this apartment.

So, I would like to ask for some advice on what to do in this situation. I really hope that the British Embassy takes the political climate in the country into account and finds this set of proving documents sufficient. However, the more I read the web, the more I doubt about the chances of us finally getting out of Russia.

What do you think?
Thank you in advance for your help.

If you are not married or in a registered civil partnership, HO will expect to see evidence of a minimum of 24 months cohabitation and shared financial responsibilities and commitments of being 'in a relationship akin to marriage'.

They can be evidence either in joint names or addressed individually to each of you at the same address.

Thank you very much. Though I am still a bit nervous about cohabitation proof.
I forgot to say, we're going for a vacation to California next month, maybe it will be a good idea to get married there so to drop the cohabitation requirement altogether?

Being married would removed the 24 month cohabitation evidence etc.
