What documents are needed for a newly landed UK Tier 2 Visa holder to live life lawfully and without hindrance?

This is an area for the discussion of matters related to issues about moving from one country to another. Examples could be about money transfer, moving and packing, validity of driving licence, etc..

It is not a general non-immigration, free-for-all area.

What documents are needed for a newly landed UK Tier 2 Visa holder to live life lawfully and without hindrance?

Post by MichellePfeiffer » Mon Feb 11, 2019 9:27 am

Hi,

I am scheduled to land in the UK on a Tier 2 General visa in mid-March.

Do I need to go everywhere in UK with my passport once I am there? What are the documents that are usually needed for stuff like getting an apartment, getting a driver's license etc?

The reason I need to know this is because I have also applied for a Canadian Permanent Residence visa. I received a "Ready for Visa" call from the Canadian government, meaning that they want me to send in my passport for getting stamped with the PR visa. Given how close my date of travel to the UK is, I have requested that the processing Visa Office be changed to London. However, if I need to have my passport on my person at all times in London, then it will be difficult to get the Canadian Visa processing done in London also.

Please advise.

Regards,
MP

You need your passport, visa and proof of address for bank account, drivers licence, GP registration etc.

No need to carry it everywhere but you need to send it to DVLA for the license.

Landlords simply need to see it plus your visa and will take copies. Same as GP.

You also need passport and visa for NI number if not issued automatically and printed on your visa card you collect in the uk

Note that for DLVA to exchange your licence, you will be without your passport and visa for a couple of weeks. You have to send originals.
