Switching to contracting post ILR

Post by adi27 » Mon Mar 18, 2019 3:20 pm

Hello, I'll be eligible for ILR application in couple of months. I'm currently working as a full time employee for an organization, but would like to switch to contracting as soon as I get the ILR. For my ILR application, apparently, my current employer has to submit a supporting letter confirming the continuity of my employment post ILR. Is this a mandatory requirement for the application? What could happen if I resign after the ILR and join back same organization as an contractor? Will I need to inform the UK Home office?
I've not yet discussed my plans of switching to contracting with my current employer as I am two minds whether to tell them or not. Any advice please?

Yes.

What you do after you get ILR is irrelevant. This is also not an immigration related issue as once you have ILR you are free to do what you wish in terms of employment.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm in good terms so far with my employer, my only worry is if I tell them about my plans right now, they might not be willing to issue that letter and if I keep them in dark - I might break that the good bonding :-(.

You should stick to your employer atleast till your ILR is processed.

Suggest you wait till you at least have your ILR before doing anything.

You cannot contract on a Tier 2 anyway.
