Passport validity to enter U.K.

I am really confused and would be grateful for your help. My husband has been granted a spouse visa but his Pakistani passport expires just under 6 months (shy of 5 days). Does he need to renew his passport? I know most countries require the passport to be valid for 6 months. Would it be wise to travel on current passport ?

Thanks, I have read on the .gov website that you must have a valid passport to enter U.K. and it should be valid for the whole stay. By whole stay does it mean 30 days as visa is valid for this long or 2.5 years (brp) ?

He can renew once in the UK and has his brp card etc.
