Separation - informing the home office

My wife has been in the UK for just 6 months but wants a separation and eventually a divorce. She'd prefer to stay in the UK until her spouse visa expires in 2 years, and I am happy for her to do this, but we will be living separately. We don't have children or a house.

The GOV.UK website says that both my wife and myself must inform them of a separation. I understand that if she doesn't tell them (and gets caught) then she will struggle to get a visa in the future. But what can happen to me, the sponsor, if I don't inform them?

You should definitely inform to UKVI to save yourself from any future inconvenience if you will again willing to bring or applying for someone.

She will require a 2.5 year extension visa after her current visa expires ie total 5 year before ILR.

If you aren’t living together, you won’t be able to evidence you’re together for the extension visa, and therefore it would be refused.

Therefore, rather than trying to help her and create problems for yourself, advise Home Office about your separation.

If she has reasons to stay in the UK, that can be done as a separate matter between her and the Home Office, although that seems likely to fail as there is no child.

Upon informing to HO her visa will be curtailed to 60 days facilitating her to leave the country or see other alternatives which most likely be none. But sponsor (you) won't be informed regarding such curtailment.
