I got my ILR but can I travel before the new BRP arrives?

Post by lasse_ggooorg » Sat May 04, 2019 8:57 pm

Hi all,
I got an email that my ILR has been granted last Friday(3rd, May), which is great.
It said it can take up to 10 days for the new BRP card to arrive.
But I would like to travel this Friday(10th, May) and I am afraid the card may not arrive by then.
I still have my old tier 2 BRP card that has expiry date of 26th May.
Does anyone know if I could travel with my old BRP though I got ILR granted? Would it affect the result or my immigration history?
Would be grateful if someone could share the knowledge on this... !
Have a happy bank holiday weekend!

As far as I know, you are expected to return the existing BRP card back to HO when you receive the new one. By implication you can now use the new card to travel. I’m not however sure if it would have been cancelled already.

No. Your old BRP is invalid now. You have to cut it in two pieces and return in to HO as the approval letter states.

Highly likely you will receive new BRP before 10th.

Call DX and ask them. They most likely will have your BRP by now and will tell you the delievery date.

Its hard to contact them but try three four times you get through then. The automated system asks for a tracking number. Let it run the course (let it speak I mean till its exhausted lol) it will automatically transfer you to the advisor. Give your postcode and surname they will tell you if they have a home office delievery for you. Ask them for a tracking number then. They will give you one so you can track online also.

Trick: When the automated system asks for a tracking number just key in any 9 digit number. It will bypass that. Once you speak to the advisor give him your postcode and surname.

My visa was approved on 2nd May and I received my BRP on 7th May. You should receive yours before Friday I am hopeful.
