Fiance Visa-Humanist wedding

Post by cscullion1988 » Wed Jul 31, 2019 4:59 pm

Hi folks

New to the board and just have a question and i havent been able to come across the answer so far on the forums

My partner is from the US, we are getting married in Northern Ireland next year, and we are going to have a Humanist Ceremony

She will be moving over early next year on the Fiance visa, we are just wondering as humanist marriage is only legal in Northern Ireland and Scotland, would this be an issue when we are looking to progress from the Fiance Visa to the Spouse Visa once we are married

We believe it will be fine as the marriage is legal in Northern Ireland and is a valid recognised marriage in the UK, but we just want to be sure

If the marriage is valid in NI it will be valid in the UK

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Humanist weddings are legally recognised, as long as the couple are married by a Humanist Association of Ireland (HAI) accredited celebrant.
