settling in Ireland with a non-EU spouse

Post by marsupilami » Wed Sep 04, 2019 10:00 pm

Hi

I'm a dual EU/UK citizen, my wife is non-EU. I am thinking of leaving the UK for Ireland at some point in the future . How does it work for the wife? Do I have to settle first, then the wife apply for a visa from her home non-EU country? Any idea how long does it case of what type of visa it is? is it expensive?

Unclear if you are a dual citizen why you have applied for a UK spouse visa for your spouse instead of the EEA family permit for the UK which is free

Hello CR001, well it's because of Brexit isn't it? In the current toxic climate there was no real guarantee that her right to stay here would 've been ok... Or can she apply for EEA family permit then switch to spouse visa once here in the UK?

If she was here before 31st October in the event of no deal or end December 2020, she would have applied for pre-settled status. As a dual national, Lounes case likely applies to you.

Yes, it is possible.
