Is BRP compulsory if I already have ILR in passport?

Post by winmxxc1990 » Mon Sep 16, 2019 1:35 am

Hi there,

I'm in the process of applying for naturalization.

I obtained Leave to Remain status for an Indefinite Period in 2002 (as a child) in the form of a vignette on my old passport. Since that time, I've studied, worked in the UK and traveled (i.e numerous holidays) without the need of a BRP card, each time taking both my old passport (which contains my status) and current passport.

I'm not able to provide a BRP card with my application as I don't have one and have never had one.

Would I need a BRP card when completing the naturalization form (section 6)?

From what I understand BRPs came into play in late 2015 affecting new applicants applying for visas to the UK. As I gained Indefinite Leave to Remain status in 2002, I'd assume this wouldnt apply to me.

I'd appreciate if anyone can shed light on this. Thanks in advance.

You don't need a brp first. Your ilr in passport is sufficient.

Note BRPs have been in use since 2010 if not slightly earlier.
