Naturalisation

Hi All,
I am in the process of applying for Naturalisation via the online application form. I have a question regarding submitting the documents. I believe, I have to upload the scanned documents and after the submission I will be asked to visit an authorised centre for document verification and BRP. At the centre will they retain the documents (Passport and BRP card)? The reason for the question is that I will be travelling abroad for work and I would like to keep my passport and brp card.

Any advise on this matter would be highly appreciated!
