Tier 2 General Dependant applications - do we need an agent/solicitor for this?

Post by kashkns » Thu Jan 30, 2020 12:17 am

Hi
I am currently on a Tier 2 General Partner visa - dependant on my spouse's main Tier 2 General visa.
My spouse is planning to join a new company who is ready to sponsor a new Tier 2 General visa for her and bear the costs of the application. However the new company has notified that the costs of sponsoring the dependants is upon ourselves. If we use their solicitor/agent to apply for the dependants, the charges alone is £500 per dependant. As we are 2 dependant applicants, we need to shell out an extra £1000 compared to applying on our own.
  • Could you please let me know if the process of visa application for Tier 2 dependants is easy enough for us to do it ourselves if the main applicant's visa is already done by the company? Or does it really need the facilitation by a solicitor/agent due to its complexity?
  • If we can do this ourselves, is there anything specific we need to ask the solicitor to provide us from the main applicant't application that would help us for the dependant applications later? I can think of the maintenance letter from the employer to include the two dependants. Is there anything else that we need to worry about?
  • I am assuming that the BRP from the previous Tier 2 Dependant visa would still hold good until its expiry date for the dependant to reside in UK even if the main applicant has already switched to a new Tier 2 General. Is this assumption incorrect?
Cheers.

You don't state when your current visas expire.

There is no requirement for dependents to apply for a new visa when the main tier 2 visa holder changes employers as long as they still have valid visas.

You don't need a solicitor.
