Children first passport application (born in India) & father got British passport recently

Post by AjitP » Sat Mar 14, 2020 12:26 pm

I had UK ILR before the birth of my two kids. So when I brought my kids to UK 4 years before, they got ILE (Settlement Visa) on their BRP card (and my wife got dependent-settlement Visa).

Now last month I got British Citizenship and UK passport as well. Both kids are around 10yr old now.

As my children are living with me for last 4+ years and I got British passport now, can I directly apply for British passport for my two kids? OR do I have to apply for Citizenship first for them and then passport?

Note: I will apply citizenship for my wife once she get ILR next year. This part I will handle separately. Above query is for children passport only.

Regards,
AP

The children are not British and cannot apply for a British passport directly.

They have to apply to register as British once either parent becomes British and the other parent holds ilr.

Are you sure they got ILE and not a time limited visa like their other parent?
