I will be applying for extending my spouse visa and I was wondering if it is possible to scan my wife's passport and upload rather than sending it to the home office ?I started my application at the official site https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/

Yes as everything now send to UKVI electronically. Also remember during the application travelling outside of UK would be equivalent of withdrawing the application.
