I received an email from my MP saying the HO contacted her to advise my application was under consideration and, the case working team was going through my documents. The HO said there was not a time frame set for an outcome, however, they're trying to get a decision as soon as possible. Has anyone else heard anything from the HO?

Can anyone pls explain to me the difference between a long certificate of application and the short one? Because my COA is one paper ( page 1 on the front and page 2 on the back)
My second questionis: does someone applied to get NI number with the certificate of application?

Hi Boo, National Insurance Number (NINO) is a separate process - I imagine this will have delays now as you need to call them and schedule a meeting/interview. They check your documents and ask you questions before they attribute you a NINO, it's a process that can take a few months. This is the number to call for scheduling an interview, I believe - 0800 141 2075 - not sure what is happening with this right now, maybe you can just send the documents to them by post.

Hi, does any one know if only passports are returned after application or will they return the EEA residence card as well ? Or are they keeping the EEA residence card? I needed to know as I would like to apply for the Surinder Singh route but I am also planning to go back to Spain at some point so I will need my Residence card back ( Article 10- issued by Spain) in order to enter Spain again. Anybody have experience please?

I applied in January 2020 after 15 days they sent me back my passport and my EEA residency card ( article 10 family member of eu citizen).

Hi Canadian, thank you for your reply but I already went to the interview in the job center, the interviewer took a copy of my passport, certificate of application, proof of address and mariage certificate, it's been now two months I didn't hear anything from them, I tried to call but with the coronavirus they don't pick up, so my question is if my NIno gets refused does it mean that my residence card will be refused too I mean are they related to each other.

@Boo, as far as I know they are unrelated. Your Nino can get refused because they are not convinced that you have a real job or you forgot a document, it has nothing to do with your residency. One is the department of work and pensions (I think) and the other is Home Office, so no real connection....

My son is British (born in France) and didn't get his Nino because he wasn't on their lists, even though he has a British passport from birth. He had to insist and go to more interviews in order to get it, so he could get a small part-time job (at age 16). He got it but it took ages, they are not very quick with the National Insurance Number.

Surinder Singh Pre settled status(applicant entered in UK on article 10 Residence card).


Applied : 1st Oct 2019(Paper application)
COA issued 7 Nov 2019.



On 5th March 2020 caseworker sent an email asking proof of genuine residence (almost same documents which were already submitted). Sent extra evidence in 2days time. Then recieved orignal ID cards and documentation back on 15th April 2020 with a letter stating that they re unable to make a decision at the moment because of Covid-19 situation.


It has been more than 6 months but there is absolutely no outcome of the application.

Hi Raja007 can you please ask your friend what kind of COA does he have I mean is it long one ( which contains page 1 on the front side and page 2 on the back side of a leaf of paper with right to work) or is it short COA which contains page 1 only on the front side without right to work.

Thank you for your reply, but page 2 on the back side doest it start with note for employers or it doesn't? because I heard from someone that long COA of two pages with note for employers when its sent to you means your file is complete and when they send you short COA without note for employers means your file is incomplete.
So please can you give us more details and correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes you are correct. The Home Office Processes and procedures for EEA
documentation applications, Version 8.0 on the page 27 under the heading "Certificates of application" it says that:
"

a ‘short’ COA confirms receipt of the holder’s application - it does not confirm
any right to work for the applicant

‘long’ COA confirms receipt of the holder’s application and confirms the
applicant’s ability to take employment in the UK whilst their application is
outstanding"

01/07/2019 - EEA Family Permit Entry Clearance issued from France
10/10/2019 - Moved to the UK
02/12/2019 - Paper Application Form requested from the HO
09/12/2019 - Application form received (post)
11/12/2019 - Application form submitted with all supporting original documents
15/12/2019 - Original passports returned with a biometric invitation letter
16/12/2019 - Biometric submitted at the local post office
06/01/2020 - COA received and dated 04/01/2020
01/05/2020 - Still waiting for the decision

Thank you for the explanation you've given me, but when I asked Raja007 about the kind of its certificate of application because he said after four months from receiving the COA the HO sent him an email asking him to provide more evidence, so my point is Mikefruk if Raja007 holds long certificate of application ( which mean file is complete) then how come the HO after four months ask for more evidence!!! That's why I'm inviting Raja007 to give us more details.

It's a 2 page COA.


In the second paragraph it states Note for employers.

If a person applies Under EU settlement scheme may already have a right of work etc and they can demonstrate their right of work with their valid BRP if a non EU doesnt have BRP then you can request their right of work on the following link etc.

I found this new guidance from March 2020 for case workers, for Surinder Singh applications. Very helpful for understanding the process. One thing that I still can't figure out, maybe someone can clarify:
Does everyone applying need 'comprehensive sickness insurance' or only spouses of self-sufficient and/or student British citizens?

My husband is self employed, not self sufficient but we have private health insurance from France which I'd like to stop as it is expensive and we are not using it. Is it best to wait until after the outcome? Do I even need it? We only have it as we needed it while we lived in France for some years before we moved to the UK (to top up the basic, free health regime there) but have been paying for nothing for the past year+. Any thoughts?

1/ yes you're right comprehensive sickness insurance it's required only if your spouse is student or self-sufficient ( EU regulation 2016).
2/ private sickness insurance even in France is not required to apply for French residency card as family member of eu citizen if your husband is a worker or self-employed ( directive 2004/38).
3/ you should stop your private sickness insurance because your spouse is self employed in the UK and even if your spouse is student or self sufficient in the UK, you will have to get a new private sickness insurance that covers you in the UK.

Hi , this topic is related to EU settlement scheme for surinder singh applications. British citizen must be a qualified person if you are applying under EU regulations 2016(Worker, Self Employed, Student (with CSI cover) or Self sufficient(CSI Cover).


But Under EU settlement scheme you do not need to be a qualified person , you only need to prove your residence in the UK. Therefore there is no CSI cover required if British citizen is student or Self sufficient. I hope senior boarder members will correct me if I am wrong.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could clarify for me... is it required to resubmit biometrics if they were already taken previously? My wife has a valid EEA Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) and obviously biometrics were taken as a part of this (or EEA FP, I don't remember!)

We applied for pre-settled status and received passport/residence card back as well as a CoA. Is she meant to have had a letter to re-submit biometrics... seems everyone's timelines here contain biometrics requests!
