No, it doesn't mean anything. Maybe he sponsored your card, but after you receive it you have no sponsors...You're independent.lil lost brit wrote:i have a permenant resident card, a work permit and something else cant remember what, ive only been outa the nation just under a month. If my sponser leaves doesnt that mean i lose my residency too?
I don't understand the issue. You have valid green card, correct? It is not conditional, correct? If it is conditional (means it is for 2 years only and then your sponsor has to apply to remove condition). If you have 10yr green card which is valid you do not need anyone and can enter the country and work or study wherever you want.lil lost brit wrote:Soooo, what y'all are saying is that as long as i get back to the US asap i can stay??? Im more than capable of supporting myself and there are plenty of place of work over there for me and what i do, if so this would be awsome, i miss that place so much n i am willing to do anything to be there
The permanent resident card is the "green card". In the very olden days these used to be printed on green paper, and the name somehow stuck. If you have a green card you can go back on your own. The only problem is that if you stay in the UK for a long time you run the risk of losing your permanent residence. As a rule of thumb, if you stay in the UK longer than six months you may have problems and if you stay longer than a year you may have lost your PR. So the sooner you get back to the US, the better. If you plan to stay in the US for a long time it might be a good idea for you to apply for citizenship as soon as you qualify.lil lost brit wrote:I am not sure what a green card is, but i do have, a social security number, permenant resident card, and a work permit. The confusion is that my father told me that im am reliant on him being in the country or my things become void, he is not a very reliable source i might add. But thanks to you both you have helped me alot and i plan on moving back very soon, i am to get in contact with a property manger soon. Any other responses are more than welcome, thanks again.
Your permanent residence card is also a work permit, you don't need a separate document to work. When does it expire?lil lost brit wrote:I agree! So one last thing, erm i have my social security and residencey cards but my dad has my work permit, and is unlikley to give it back, can i report it missing and have a new one sent through?? thanks
lil lost brit wrote:Wow you guys just keep bringing good news!! it doesnt expire until january 2018 so i should be good for a while, and by then i can apply for citizenship right??
Similarly, it is possible to lose permanent resident status (eg by spending too much time outside the U.S.) while the card is still valid.darko wrote:Just so you know your card expiration date is when your CARD expires not your status. You will still be permanent resident: you will just need new card.
I don't know. I suggest you ask in the following forum. A couple of experienced immigration attorneys regularly post there and they may be able to tell youlil lost brit wrote:Hey thanx for all the help, but i just hit another bump in the road. I just got an email from my dad saying that he has contacted who ever and has asked for them to cancel my residency? can this happen?
