Query Shortage Ocuupation List Code 2136

Post by ukworkp » Sun Aug 16, 2020 8:30 am

Can someone put me to link or refer to guidance for what all roles are covered under 2136 code?

I am interested to know whether 'Software Tester' role can be covered under 2136?

Restricted Vs Un restricted CoS

Post by ukworkp » Sun Aug 16, 2020 8:44 am

Looking for some guidance on below..
My spouse employer assigned un restricted CoS for switch from ICT dependent visa to Tier 2 general..
We are not sure whether we are eligible for unrestricted CoS or do we need to request for restricted CoS..
Please check and guide

Software tester falls under SOC 2139, not 2136.

Thank you for your reply.. apologies for further questions.... Software Tester is covered under Shortage occupation list.. which is 2139 instead of 2136.. I reffered to link given by you.. and see that 2139 doesn't covered Software Tester.. please see below?

2136 Programmers and software development professionals All jobs in this occupation code

2139 Information technology and communications professionals not elsewhere classified Only the following job in this occupation code:

• Cyber security specialist .

As per above only Cyber security specialist not Software Tester.. did I miss any?
Please check and advice

If the job is not on the shortage occupation list, then it is NOT a shortage occupation. A software tester is not the same job as a Software developer. It is also not up to you or your partner to decide which SOC is relevant. It is the employers job to do that. If they have used or are using the wrong SOC for the job, you risk the visa being refused.

Note also that where the shortage list, Appendix K, states all jobs in the SOC, the list of jobs is what is stated in Appendix J.

Software tester is clearly listed for SOC 2139 in Appendix J (non shortage list), as the link I provided states.

• makes recommendations concerning software/system quality;
• examines IT system for potential threats to its security and integrity and draws up plans for disaster recovery if security is compromised;
• deals with and reports on breaches in security.

• IT consultant
• Quality analyst (computing)
• Software tester

Thank you for clarifying this for me, as employer is new to sponsorship we are also researching.. according to you.. I understand that Software Tester is not in shortage occupation list hence employer has to go for "
Labour Market test"..
Is my understanding correct?

Correct yes.

She also needs a Restricted CoS.

Thank you much for your inputs.. do I still need to take job code for 'Software Tester' as SOC 2139.. as SOC stands for shortage occupation code where as which is not.. for what can we refer for this?

SOC stands for Standard Occupation Code and not 'shortage occupation code'. SOL is the Shortage Occupation List.
