Long Term Visitor Visa 10/5 year

Hi all,

I am planning to apply a 10 year Visitor Visa for my dada. He is approx 78 years old and been in the UK twice - 2011 and 2019. I would like to apply a long term visitor visa for him as it is difficult for him to go to VFS office main hubs every time as the VFS office doesn't exist in the city where he lives.

Have got the following questions:
- What would be the best justification for it?
- What are the chances of him getting this?
- Any extra documentation etc would be beneficial to support the application?
- Any other advise/comment?

How long was his previous visa? If 6 months, what you are trying is a refusal on the making.

Never try 10-year visitor visa if you visited the UK twice on 6-month visas. Jump first to 2-year visa, then 5, then 10. I have seen people with a 10 year visa but they visited the UK for many short trips over a decade+ and they got progressively longer and longer visas.

At 78 years old, if your father comes to the UK with a 10 year visa, he will never go back. This is how the Home Office would see it.

Once he is exposed to a refusal on 10 years, he can't just turn around and apply for 6 months.

Yes he was on 6 months Visa in past. The reason of applying 5 years one was as there is no VFS office in the place he lives and eveytime he has to come he had to travel to one of the VFS office location and then apply. With the age it would be more of hassel for him and whence was thinking for a 5 years one.

Any other advise would be apprecaited.

The real reason and or your thoughts are what you have outlined. The thought process of HO is what Zerubbabel stated in his reply. From experience of people, if there are not several records/ travel history along the visitor visa validity intervals i.e. 6 months, 2 years,5 years,10 years set by HO, successful application as you are planning may not be so.

That reason alone won't be considered as he even can be accompanied with any of his family member/caretaker to the centre. Even in UK as well sometimes the applicants and their dependants with little kids have to travel miles away for biometrics appointment or sitting for English tests.
