British Naturalization application for a dependent child born in UK

Post by narass » Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:27 am

Hi Team. My child was born in UK and is currently on a visa as my dependent (Tier2 ICT route) which is valid till next month. He is in India for the past 2 years. I have completed my 10 continuous years stay in UK by early August on Tier2 ICT route and I am planning to apply for ILR now. As I understand, my child will be eligible for naturalization once I get my ILR, I have below queries with his application:

1. Can my child's naturalization application be submitted/processed from India ?
2. If NO, can the British naturalization application be only submitted/processed only within UK ?
3. Is it mandatory for my child to be physically present in UK before I can submit the application ?
4. What is the current process time for the British naturalization application in this pandemic period ?
5. His 2 years stay out of UK will have any impact on his eligibility for British naturalization process (with respect to not meeting any eligibility criteria) ?

Please provide your advise ASAP based on which I need to plan my Family's travel to UK immediately. Your input is much appreciated.

1. Yes.

2. No.

3. No.

4. It can take up to 6 months, sometime longer, especially if applying from abroad.

5. No.

Note that your child will lose their Indian citizenship once they become British.

A British passport from India can take 16 weeks and up to a year from abroad
