Child Registration MN1 Form - References

Post by jnasir86 » Sat Sep 12, 2020 1:54 pm

Hello,

Wondering if someone can help. I am looking to apply for my child's British citizenship using MN1 form online. My kid is 4 years old. On the references section, I need to provide two references.

First one being - nor a relative, solicitor or an agent - I will be using a family friend for this.

Second one being - This referee should be a person (of any nationality) who has professional standing. This can include a minister of religion, civil servant or a member of a professional body such as an accountant or solicitor (who is not representing you with this application) - who should I use for this? Can I use his nursery class teacher's reference? Do directors of companies qualify?

Thanks!

General information – all British nationals: nationality policy guidance
For child applicants at least one of the referees must be a person who has dealt with the child in a professional role such as a teacher, doctor, health visitor or social worker. Where a child cannot provide a referee who has dealt with them in a professional capacity and has provided documents to show that they have attempted to do so, you can accept 2 referees who meet the criteria for referees on adult applications.

Great! Thank you.

Question - Since I have been filling my application online, do I request the referees details my email/phone and fill them in? i.e. ask them for their passport details and address etc. That's what I thought.

But towards the end in the documents provided section, it asks to provide Two referee declarations for Mr XXX. What's this please? Is there a declaration form that I need the refrees to fill and provide with the documents?

Many thanks!

At the end you have to download the referee forms, which you have populated with their details, paste the child's photo into each form and post it to each referee to physically sign and send back to you. This is then uploaded with the supporting documents.

Thank you. That makes sense as long as the online application provides me with the letters to download after I submit my application.

Can I personally take these forms to the referees instead of posting them?

Thanks
