Worried about Referees and need help, please.

Post by Riori » Sun Oct 11, 2020 8:59 pm

Hi,

I Have lived in the UK for around 9 years. I am married to a British Citizen and I am applying for ILR next year. I have been reading about the process for British Citizenship.
I know people say, oh you have been living here a long time you should know a lot of people but well in my case I dont, I am an introvert and do not socialise very much. So my questions:
1) Can I use anyone at all from my husbands family? like an aunt or cousin etc.
2) I have gone to the same Doctors practice and Dentist for at least 5 years. I have often had the same Doctor or Nurse Practitioner and always the same dentist. Do they count at all? We are not friends, they just know me as a patient.
3) I live above a funeral directors and have seen the same lady there since we moved here 5 years ago. I say hello, talk a little every like 6 months but are not friends. Would she count?
4) I have met and seen on and off over the years friends of my husbands Gran. Would they count?

I guess I just need clarification of the know personally thing? and how well a professional has to know me?

Thanks for any help.

1. You cannot use someone who is related to you through marriage or blood.

2. Yes.

3. Depends what the lady's job is if using her as a professional referee. Otherwise if British, and over 25, you can use her as your second referee.

4. As your second British referee yes.

You cannot use anyone who is related to through marriage to your husband. The guidance states this very clearly

You should always follow the guidance as CR001 quoted and not take the risk.

But, I know some people who have got away with using relatives as referee’s.

One of my friend just got approved last week and she used his brother in law as a referee. This was totally wrong to do but HO seems to ignore these loopholes somehow!!

Ok, thanks. I am just really worried I guess because I dont really know people who would give up all that information even though they have 'known' me for 3 years. I didn't realise this was such a strict requirement.

Thanks for the answers on the previous question! unsure if I must make a new post or continue in this one.

Under the section that says 10 years of employment history.
For the predominant time I have been here, I have been a homemaker. It seems to only have options for
An employee, A business partner, Self-employed, or A director.
What do I put under this section?
Thanks!
