Applying for British passport requirements

Post by zoomaj » Wed Oct 07, 2020 9:06 pm

Hello

My wife studied at college for Essol, and she has passed all levels 1,2 and 3.

It mentions the name of the college she passed and city and guilds is written on the certificate too. They where issued in 2015.

Then she got busy with kids etc, and today she passed her life in the uk test 07.10.2020.

So I just wanted to check does she now have all the correct documents to apply for a British passport and citizenship?

I only ask because iv been reading about B1 and trinity college and I am confused as to will her 2015 Essol certificates still be valid?

Or does she now need to do a B1 TEST as well?

Was your wife’s same old English Test used for ILR also?
Some recognised test qualifications only last for 2 years.

I think you can only use an old B1 test if it was used for ILR also. But in case of an old ESOL, I think its best to take a new B1 SELT.

Wait for other opinions also.

Hello yes I heard that too if she used her qualifications for ILR, but her problem is she came in 2010 and at that time she got ILR straight away.

I know we have left it almost 10 years and became lazy because she already had ILR, Also we got busy with kids during that process too. But we really want to get this British passport thing sorted now as kids are a bit older and she has time to study again.

If she didn't use her ESOL test for her ilr application, it won't be accepted.

She needs to do a new test on the current approved UKVI list.

Citizenship is NOT an immigration application so unsure what your question relates to.

No worries thank you for your prompt reply, sorry I don't think my question was accurate enough, sometimes around October November time, rules change in regards to English language tests etc?

So I just wanted to check if anything is due to change this year? Or is this trinity college the latest thing to change and will be in place for a while?

Because I don't want my wife to do everything then in October November things changes then her certificates are invalid.

This is what happened in Oct 2013, she had All her essol b1 certificates, but we where moving house and got delayed in applying. So after Oct 2013, rules came into force where life in the uk test and essol certificates where both required prior to October 2013 it was either life in the uk test or essol college certification. Both where not required. But we just got caught out.

Nothing has changed. It is still B1 English that is required plus liuk. The only thing that changes at different times, not specifically October/November, is the approved test centres and tests, which have been updated at least twice already this year. Trinity has been on list for a number of years, it is nothing new.

Prior to October 2013, liuk was mandatory for ilr and citizenship, it wasn't an "either one or the other".
