Spouse became brit citizen and I have ILR. Can I apply for citizenship rightaway?

Post by rocksays » Sun Aug 08, 2021 6:17 pm

hello there!

My spouse became british citizen via naturalization in November, 2020. I got my ILR in June 2021 ... and I am now applying for british citizenship.

We've been married since 2010 and have been living together in UK since 2013. My understanding is that now that I have my ILR - I do not need to wait to apply for british citizenship.

This is based on what I have read on UKGC application but at this stage this is still just a hypothesis.

Can someone please validate my hypothesis?

thanks!
CPD.

Unsure what UKGC is, but the UKVI website is clear.

You can apply for citizenship without waiting 12 months if you are married to a British citizen provided you meet all the requirements to apply based on 3 years residence
