Visit visa - Mother for 10 years

Post by denver2k » Wed Oct 06, 2021 9:31 am

Hi,

My mother has a history of UK visit visa with my dad, who passed away Last year.

She had 6 months visit visa in 2013 & 2016. In 2017, she received 5 years visa. She travelled along my dad in 2017, 2018 & 2019.

She is 67, fit, healthy and vaccinated. She has her own property, bank savings and monthly pension.

All her stays have been within 6 months limit.

She went back in August 2019 and could not come back due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Her 5 years visit visa is expiring by the end of March 2022. She is ready to travel in December but I would like her to stay for at least 5 months.

Therefore I'm intending to apply for another Extension Visit Visa for 10 years now.

1) I would like to check if it is OK to apply for 10 years?

2) If we apply on 1st December, whilst her existing Visa is still valid, will she get new Visa starting from the expiration of her existing visa OR from the date when New Vida's decision get made.

3) What is recommended in this situation? i.e is it better to fully utilize her existing visa until March 2022. Then, apply for new Visit Visa after 6 months ?

Thanks in advance.

Applying for a 10 year visa is NOT an 'extension of a visit visa'. It is a new application and all the standard requirements have to be met.

Your choice, there is no guarantee she will get a 10 year visa though.
2) If we apply on 1st December, whilst her existing Visa is still valid, will she get new Visa starting from the expiration of her existing visa OR from the date when New Vida's decision get made.
It will be valid from the date it is issued. It is NOT 'tagged onto' the expiry date of the 5 year visa. If a new visa is granted, the 5 years visa will be cancelled.
3) What is recommended in this situation? i.e is it better to fully utilize her existing visa until March 2022. Then, apply for new Visit Visa after 6 months ?
Probably yes.
