Is MN1 form needed for my kid?

Post by darksk » Thu Oct 07, 2021 6:42 am

Hello all, Thanks everyone behind this forum. It's very informative and helpful. I have a quick question and hope someone will help me with it. I was planning to apply British passport for my kid. He was born in the UK when we were not having ILR. But we have to apply Indian passport for him in emergency situation to travel to India. My question is, does he need to go through MN1 form path or I can directly apply for British passport? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

If he was born before you got ilr then you need MN1 first for him to become British.

Only a British citizen can apply for a British passport and he isn't British yet.

Note that he will lose his Indian citizenship when he becomes British.
