Hey all,
In the month of June, I have used E-scooter in the cycle lane on road for the first time with all safety like a helmet, etc., unfortunately, police stopped me and seized my scooter even after I explained to them that I am very new to London and not aware of the rules. later the next day I got it back by paying 160GBP, and I was told that I'll be receiving a fixed penalty letter to my address within 6 weeks. I moved to a new address later and I was checking with my old housemates on any letters for weeks and so. The answer is NO from them. Even I haven't received any email or message confirmation from the metropolitan police.
Out of surprise on 25 Dec 2021, I got a call from my landlord saying that I've received a singles justice notice mentioned as a charged with a criminal offense. I was shocked to see that they have mentioned that they have sent a penalty letter in June and since I have not responded to the same they have sent me the SJP notice now.
To be honest I am not aware of the letter which was sent to my old address. immediately I applied for GUilty plea online explaining everything about it and apologized. I choose the option to attend the court to explain myself in detail to the magistrate. But at this moment I am really scared of what will happen next. I am awaiting their reply. I mentioned about myself that I am a student and briefed my finances and elaborated my fear about my future career and visa since it was mentioned as a criminal offense.
So I am yet to apply for my PSW after months from now, and even after they clear my case with a fine and penalty, I believe the URN/case no: still exists in my record. I am scared that this will affect my PSW application. I haven't harmed anyone, neither crossed the signal nor sped. I was just using the e-scooter in the cycle lane that's it.
Can anyone please help me with what happens to me next, will my PSW get affected? Is there any chance of clearing my record, case no: after paying the fine? Please help me. I don't want all my hard work to go vain with the minor communication mistake.
