Expedited application for first time British passport

Post by hr200 » Fri Nov 19, 2021 5:32 pm

Hi everyone,

I travel globally for work, sometimes on just a days notice and this makes the application for a British Passport a little tricky considering the average timeframe between application and receiving documents back is upwards of a month.

According to https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently there's no way to expedite first time British passports. Does anyone know if there's any way to get a quicker turnaround somehow? I'm happy to pay extra, etc. I'm just a little bummed out that with the 1 month + processing times I'll likely won't end up in possession of my British passport...

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately and puzzlingly (really not sure what reason they have for not offering this) it cannot be done, unless "you need a passport to travel urgently for medical treatment or because a friend or family member is seriously ill or has died". In this case you need to call HMPO, provide evidence and they try to process in a week or so.

Please do NOT post your questions in the timeline only topic for British passports.

The use "coljones" who you were asking a question to, did not naturalise in the UK after 5 years residence. He applied to register as British on form UKM as a person born before 1st January 1983 to a British mother. Completely different rules and requirements to your circumstances!!
