My partner is applying for british citizenship after getting his settled status in November 2020.
Our questions regarding the documents
- Does the ‘Degree Supplement’ work as a degree certification? (he studied his bachelors in the UK, all he has as documentation is the degree supplement document) Not familiar with this document - if BA or BSc degree you normally get a degree certificate from the UK university?
- In the proof of nationality documents it asks for UK permanent residence card. He has a settled status (also known as ‘indefinite leave to remain under the EU Settlement Scheme’), does he still need to get a UK permanent resident card?
Proof is passport - you don't need a PR card - settled status is suffcient, attach EUSS email.
- It states ‘If you are an EEA National, you need to include letters from employers, educational establishments or other government departments, indicating your presence in the UK during the relevant 3- or 5-year period.’ : What exactly does he need to send here? He changed his employers 3 times since he's been in the UK for the past 6 years. P60 or Council Tax bills for each year would be sufficient.
- How does he prove that he is free from immigration time restrictions as he has a European passport and no residence card? It's the EU Settled status.

Also have 2 questions asked
"Did you meet the knowledge of English requirement as part of an indefinite leave application made on or after 28 October 2013?" they don't ask about english requirement for EUSS so the answer would be no to this right?Correct NO - EUSS doesn't require English test.
"Have you made any previous UK immigration applications in the UK or abroad?" Would the answer be yes or no - would EUSS count as immigration application? Yes -it an application under UK Immigration.
Don't count travel days out/back to the UK - applies to the whole of the residency period.
When applying for citizenship, he needs to prove he was in the UK 5 years before the application date so documents should prove he was in the country from Jan 17 onwards. They're not gonna need docs before Jan 2017 since that wouldn't fall into the qualifying period. I would suggest getting letters from his employers or a letter from HMRC stating history of employment in the last 5 years, both of which are pretty easy to get.gezik wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 11:47 amthank you, just to clarify on the documents required to prove his presence in the uk
He applied for EUSS October 2020 based on 5 years in the UK, now applying for citizenship January 2022 so do the documents have to show he’s been in the UK since January 2017 or October 2015?
We have the following documents; Is this list ok? Do we need a letter from current employer that he’s been working with since 2017? If so what should be on the letter?
- -P60 from April 2016 for 2015-2016 -> not useful
-Paper slip from employer July 2016 - not useful
-Paper slip from employer September 2016 -> not useful
-HMRC national insurance number letter March 2017 -> useful
-Paper payslips from employer June2017-October 2017 -> useful
-1 council tax letter from September 2018 -> useful
-1 council tax letter from February 2019 -> useful
-1 council tax for June 2021 -> useful
-1 council tax for August 2021 -> useful
Job-seeking periods of up to six months wouldn't have required CSI.
