Foreign Travel during Naturalisation and Referee

Dears,
I have 2 quick questions:
1. Can I travel outsde UK while my naturalisation application is with the home office?
2. Can NHS doctor qualify as the referee with "professional standing"?

1. Yes, free to travel.

2. Doctors are not on the list of approved professional referees. See page 25 in link below.
