Lost Passport - NTL - anyone?

Post by nidash » Fri May 13, 2005 7:05 pm

Hi,

I lost my passport thanks to DVLA i have an indian passport and got my ILR stamp in march at the croydon office, i do not have a copy of the ILR nor have a letter from homeoffice - apparently they have stopped giving the status letter.

Any of you who has lost his/her passport and applied to get their ILR stamp on the new passport? else where in the forum i read - if you have the status letter you can get the ILR stamp on your replaced without a fee.

any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Of course, you first need to get a new passport. The Indian High Commission will probably require a police report or letter from DVLA to do this. A copy of this documentation will be useful for the Home office. You should also get details about your lost passport (number issue date etc from the High Commission).

You will need to file from NTL and pay the fee, even if you had the Home Office letter. Since you don't have the Home Office letter, it will be more difficult and time consuming. I would suggest you make an appointment and go to Croydon with as much documentation as possible (information about previous passport, any earlier passports you had, proof of earnings, letter from your employer etc.). Don't you have a copy of your ILR stamp somewhere? Your employer should have one, for example. All of these things could be helpful in their locating your record.

Personally, I would never send my passport to the DVLA. I took mine a few years back to their Wimbledon office where they checked it and processed my license application without keeping the passport.

I went to DVLA wimbeldon too!

Hi,

Unfortunately i do not have the ILR stamp copy because i went to DVLA wimbeldon the same day i went to homeoffice, i thought they woudnt take my passport but it seems the rules changed the now and if you have anyother passport apart from british, they require you to submit it with them.

I am thinking about going to croydon office myself but if i do a postal application it could save me quite a handsome amount. any one has ideas approximate time NTL applications take by post?

Thanks

I made copies of my passport before I gave it to the DVLA. Plus I gave them a prepaid special delivery envelope. This was also at the DVLA in Wimbleton.

Have you received at least your DVLA license ? Or did they loose it before processing the application ?

I got my ILR Stamp!

Post by nidash » Sun May 22, 2005 7:17 pm

Hi,

Finally my ordeal is over.

I have got a new indian passport and have gone to the PEO at croydon and got my passport stamped with the ILR. i did take all my documents like the p60s for last 5 years and employers letter but none of these were required. only the new passport and the letter from DVLA sufficed.

Now i have to apply for a compensation claim from DVLA, any one has ideas about such claims? it seems at the homeoffice loosing passport to DVLA is a fairly common cause recently.

Thanks

You should be able charge them the cost of the new passport, photos, and the NTL with the Home Office. Send them a letter and provide a copies of the receipts.

I wouldn't be surprised that your old passport eventually reappears, so you better make the claim soon.
