Can my brother switch from Student Visa to Health and Care Worker Visa

Post by fatguyslim » Tue Jul 26, 2022 7:29 am

Hey everyone, my brother attained his relevant qualification in disability care work from Australia last year. He also has 18 months of work experience as disability support worker in Australia. He is currently doing a course Nursing in the UK and he was wondering if it is possible for him to switch his visa to Health and Care Worker Visa? Does he require a sponsership for switching this Visa? The plan is to apply for a job and if he gets employed then apply to swith the visa. The official website doesn't say he needs a sponsership but I cannot tell what is required for him to actually swith his visa? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Check if your brother is allowed to switch:

If he is, other parts of the gov website in the above link explain what to do

Thanks manci, I had a look at that same page before I wrote my post. The reason why I am asking experts in here is to clarify this one issue. On this page you can see that under the "eligibility" section it says this

Eligibility
You must meet the following requirements:

your job meets the eligibility requirements
you can speak, read, write and understand English

Which clearly does not mention about the applican't sponsorship. Yet when you scroll down to "How long you can stay" section you can see that it says this

How long you can stay
You can stay in the UK for as long as your employer is sponsoring you for, up to 5 years at a time. Your certificate of sponsorship will say how long your employer is sponsoring you for.

My brother is study a 3 year course so it is not a short term student visa. I might be getting confused here but I am sure someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks

You have not read the link at all. First page under OVERVIEW, clearly states you require a Certificate of Sponsorship, which means he needs a UKVI licenced sponsor.

https://www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa
Eligibility
Your job
To qualify for a Health and Care Worker visa, you must:

be a qualified doctor, nurse, health professional or adult social care professional
work in an eligible health or social care job
work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK

be paid a minimum salary - how much depends on the type of work you do
