If your BRP expires on 31 December 2024
You do not need to tell UKVI if your BRP expires on 31 December 2024 but your immigration status (for example, your visa) allows you to stay longer.
You will not need a BRP from 1 January 2025. You’ll be able to prove your immigration status online, without a BRP.
UKVI will update their information on how to prove your immigration status in early 2024. You do not need to do anything and your immigration status will not be affected.
No. Your partners needs 5 years on a spouse visa before applying for ilr and ilr is mandatory before your partner can apply for citizenship.zaraktoheed786 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 1:33 pmOn brp card it says Spouse/partner Leave to remain and I am a British Citizen.
Can we apply for British Citizenship after completing 3 years?
Thanks in advance.
zaraktoheed786 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 11, 2022 1:22 pmHi Guys,
Hope everyone is keeping well.
Entered in the UK under spouse visa: 18 dec 2019
Spouse visa exipry date: 17/09/2022
Extension of spouse visa application submitted: 04/09/2022
Application decision email received: 07/10/2022
Brp posted at home: 11/10/2022
In the decision email attached it is says “You have been granted permission to stay in the UK until 20 Apr 2025” but on the brp attached it says valid until 31/12/2024. The dates dont match. Can i please get any guidance on this. The UK is switching from cards to an electronic system of ID. All BRPs being issued now will expire on last day of 2024. Before them there will be a roll out of the new system and all affected persons shall be aware as it will be in the public domain of how to prove status.
Secondly, does this statement below falls on the route we are on:
IF YOU’RE MARRIED TO OR IN A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP WITH A BRITISH CITIZEN
To apply as the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen you must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years.
You’ll also need to have either:
indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
If you do, you’ll be eligible to apply for citizenship immediately.
Thanks.

[I have fully understood that the BRP physical card will not longer be in user from dec 2024. as per the decision email, "can stay until date was for april 2025" do i apply for ilr 28 day prior to april 2025 or december 2024.]
If you are British then they do NOT have to wait 12 months on ilr. They can apply for citizenship as soon as they get ILR.
[Thank you.]
