Queries

Post by SkilledWorker » Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:54 pm

Hi all,

Got my ILR and am planning a Naturalisation application.

I have read through some of the posts here, and have some queries.

I will apply with my wife (both ILR holders). Some posts here say that children under 18 do not apply. So that means only me and my wife will apply and we leave the child out. The child is born outside the UK, 13 years old and holds ILR. Or all three of us apply at the same time ??

We received ILR in Oct 2022. So we can file the naturalisation application only 12 months after the date of ILR (not 28 days before the date)?

We can travel outside the UK after filing the application? If approval comes during the travel, that's not a problem ?

My country doesn't allow dual citizenship. does that mean I have to hand over my old passport immediately after the approval of the naturalisation application? Or do they give a later date on which one becomes a citizen? Am not clear about the naturalisation and passport here. Naturalisation approval means I am a British citizen from the date of approval. Or from the date I get my British passport?

Thanks.

Not sure why you think that. How else does the child become British if you don't apply for them. So yes, apply for all of you at the same time.

There is no 28 day early for citizenship. You need to hold ILR for a full 12 months

Yes, free to travel. You are only British once you attend your ceremony. It is not from date of approval.

You are British once you attend your ceremony and that is the date on your naturalisation certificate. It is NOT from date of approval. You need your current foreign passport to apply for a British passport after your ceremony. After that contact or research what you do about your foreign passport

Thanks a lot.

For the child, I am still confused- Because somebody said that I and my spouse should apply for citizenship. Once approved then we can apply for citizenship for child?

Anyways, we will apply for all at the same time. For the child, it will not be Form AN, but will be MN1 ??

Thanks.

Child can apply together when one or both parents apply.
Form MN1 - add a "child under 18" at the end of your application and the system will adjust toMN1.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
