Unmarried Partner and Child British Citizenship

Post by Nargis » Mon Mar 06, 2023 2:12 pm

Hii all
I’m a student and a single (unmarried) mother . I don’t have ILR. I applied for my newborn birth certificate without father’s detail. Father has British citizenship. I want to apply for baby passport, I can provide father’s detail. But I want the father’s detail blank on certificate or passport. Because we don’t have any relation with father and he also don’t want to involve in this Matter. As I’m responsible for my child. Am I eligible for applying baby passport.

If there’s any possible way please please tell me. I’m very depressed in this situation.

Without the fathers name on the birth certificate, how will you prove the person is the biological father?

You cannot just say 'he is the father' and expect a British passport.

I already did this mistake. Can I add his name again on birth certificate without him. Because he’ll not gonna come with us. Do I need his presentation or signature somewhere in this process.

Please suggest me something easy.

He has to go with you to register the child's birth with his name and he needs to go with proof of identity.

There is no easy way.

What a difficult and tricky situation. It would have been best to get him to add his name so you have proof baby is British. You can apply for a new birth certificate with his name on it - but he needs to complete a ‘statutory declaration of acknowledgement of Parentage’ and take it with you once he signs it.

Remember, when you add his name, he will have parental responsibility so he will have full rights to the baby and can be involved in decisions relating to baby.

Alternatively, you can go through courts to get declaration of parentage. Go to a charity and try to get legal aid to cover this cost.

What I would do in your situation:
Get him to text you, message you, email you some sort of admission that he is the father. Try to get into conversations with his family members and get them to admit the same. With this proof, show it to your health visitor and request you need children social services. With their help, you may get legal aid, mediation with father to acknowledge baby and then once baby has passport, you can also get leave to remain.

Good luck!

Thank you NEWBRITISH and CROO1.
I appreciate. I’ll try to make it.

If not then I need to wait for 5 years to get baby’s passport I think .
