Ceremony Abroad

Post by tts90 » Mon Jul 17, 2023 8:26 pm

Hi all
Has anyone had any experience in attending a ceremony in an embassy/consulate abroad ?

the instruction I received from the HO was to contact the embassy directly, but they asked me to contact the HO.

Thoughts ?
Thanks

As you have applied to naturalised as British following the EU Settlement route, you would be required to attend your ceremony in the UK at the council where you live, which is where your certificate will be sent. Attending a ceremony abroad would not be an option available to you.

It is extremely limited situations where a ceremony can take place abroad.

Gov.UK - Citizenship ceremony wrote:If you’re only abroad for a short time, you might be asked to postpone the ceremony until you return to the UK. You must still book your ceremony within 3 months of getting an invitation.

You might have to prove you’re planning to live in the UK permanently if you’re going to be abroad for more than a few months. If you applied for citizenship in the UK, you cannot have your ceremony abroad.
Citizenship ceremonies at embassies abroad are generally reserved for cases where the applicant had an entitlement to be registered as a British citizen (as opposed to being naturalised) or for spouses of Crown Servants (military or diplomatic staff) posted abroad by the government.

In all other cases, as CR001 has mentioned, you are expected to attend a citizenship ceremony in the local council where you live in the UK.
