New rules on tier4 to tier2

Post by Venkatesh98 » Thu Jul 20, 2023 9:48 am

Greetings,

I'm in the UK with a tier 4 Visa, I Came here to study for my master's. Unfortunately, I completed my course with a Pg Diploma degree. I still have 3 months to stay in the UK. I can't apply for PSW. I'm actively applying for jobs. Luckily if I get a job can I switch to a tier 2 visa if the company is ready to give me a sponsorship with the latest visa rules? It's urgent can, someone, please guide me?

You can switch from a student to a skilled worker visa as long as you've completed your studies, there's nowhere within the rules saying otherwise. In this case, coming for a masters and ending up with a PGDip doesn't make a difference.

By the way, the PSW visa doesn't exist since 2017 and Tier 4 and Tier 2 were replaced by the student and the skilled worker visa. You won't find any official information under those names.

The OP is referring to the Graduate Route visa, which is obviously only possible to switch to from a Student visa, aka post study.

I do agree, PSW is a nickname that people use to call the Graduate route, but that's not the actual name so any search will not bring anything from official sources (gov.uk).

That's the reason why I also wrote the final note.

But I guess I have no power to change people's minds here.
