right to enter UK after 31.12 2024 BRP/BRC expiry are international borders

Post by RagD » Thu Aug 31, 2023 4:48 am

Hello,
I've recently recieved my renewed BRP which is valid till 31.12.2024 even though my status extends beyond this date. From the accompanying letter and the reseach i've done, i understand that the extended date is correct and is not an error which is in line with the Government’s future plans to move immigration status online.
My query is, if I am travelling intentionally and the officials (internationally) or the flight companies wanted to confirm my status and right to enter UK at before they let me board the plane, what will the procedure?

I am sure I'm not the first one to think of this but unfortunately couldn’t find any topics in relation to this.

I am afraid the officials/some flight companies in developing country may not be aware of or may not have access for checking the immigration status online as they are used to seeing physical IDs. Is the UKVI's plan is to inform everyone - in developing countries- about this change?
OR
Will there still be a physical form of ID which will need to be carried internationally?

Response will be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

We don't know anymore than what is available to read in the ukvi website.

More detail will likely be available next year some time.

You may want to read below why the roll out from HO is being expected.

To use an infamous phrase from two decades ago, it is a "known unknown". We know that we do not know what the new system will be.

It may be that the Home Office may make a portal visible within apps like Timatic, which are used by airline staff to check boarding eligibility, to check the visa status of the people boarding the plane/ferry. Or it may be some other system, like the one in place for checking EU citizens' eligibility to work in the UK, which is already digital.

The EU is also moving towards digitising their visa processes, at least for visa-free nationals, like the UK, US, etc. It is not impossible that by the end of the decade, visas may be issued entirely digitally at least in the West, if not globally.
