Changing from Employee to Self employed during Naturalisation application

Post by Omoba18 » Sun Nov 12, 2023 11:11 am

I would like to know if its possible to resign from my employer and change to self employed during naturalisation application. when I filled my application I put my employer tax reference on the naturalisation application form, therefore I am not sure if it will have any effect on my application if I change to self employed before the approval of the naturalisation application. I have seen a few similar topics but they are back in 2018, so not sure if immigration rules has change regarding these since the last post back in 2018.

Citizenship is NOT an immigration application application and immigration rules are not relevant. Citizenship has its own laws under the Nationality Laws.

You are free to change jobs as far as what you declare on the day fo application is correct.

If you are already registered as self employed by the time you apply for citizenship, you should submit your most recent tax return and explain in your cover letter that at the moment of application you were both employed and self employed, that was my situation and it's what I have done (application just recently accepted).
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

Also worth noting there is no requirement to be employed, or self-employed, so changes in that respect are not relevant for the application after you have submitted.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
