Bringing 24 months old on Student Dependent Visa with both parents already here

Post by GBkhatri » Sat Dec 09, 2023 10:58 am

Hello Everyone,

Me and my wife arrived in the UK on November 12th 2023. I'm the student and my Masters course started on 20 Novmeber 2023. My expected course finish date in February 2025 and I have been granted visa till 28th June 2025. We have left our son back at our home country with my parents who's 26 months old now.

My question is:

1. Will the new rule regarding student dependents, for courses starting on or after 1st January 2024 block me from bringing my son here, if I submit the application after 1st January 2024?

2. If the above criteria doesn't apply to me, how late can I put in the application? I want to bring him towards the end of my course and then convert him to Graduate Route dependent for 2 years so we can stay together for 2 years?

Any replies would be highly appreciated. Thank You :)

Before expiration of your June 2025 leave. When ever it is done, your son's visa will be in line with yours.

Hello there,

Thank you for your reply.

I found this other thread on immigrationboards itself and numerous other posts which say one cannot bring their dependents to join them in the UK while in their PSW Graduate visa.

uk-tier-4-student-visas/dependant-visa- ... 6639.html

I believe that I will only be able to apply for my son's dependent visa when I'm still on my Student Visa. My only concern is if I would be able to do that when there is let's say 1 or 2 months of my course remaining, before I switch to PSW Visa, or will the visa be rejected due to my course being very close to completion?

Hi Amazonian,

Please don't bother with my earlier reply. I wanted to edit/delete it but wasn't able to.

So, I got what you said. I have until June 28th 2025 to bring my son and switch to the graduate route.

Can you please suggest me whether the following will be an ideal timeline?

Feb 2025- Finish Course
April 2025- Apply for Son's dependent visa
June 25th 2025- Apply for PSW visa for all three?

Thank you.

The above looks workable considering right now. Do ask your questions again maybe 6months before you are due I.e. Jan 2025 to tailor response or advise more appropriately. You never know what the rules and or policy will be by then
