Quicker route to British Citizenship

Post by adnanshahriarniloy » Fri Dec 15, 2023 8:54 pm

Hi!

Background: I have a settled status that I obtained recently under EU Settlement Scheme. My step-parent is both an EU National and a British Citizen, and I got my settlement as a family member of an EU National.

Now, according to law, one can must hold this status for at least a year before applying for Citizenship.

But does the fact that I am a legal child of a British Citizen change anything about the waiting period?

For citizenship applications, step parent is not relevant.

If you are over 18, you need to wait 12 months.

You will need to wait 1 year from when you were granted ILR. Your parents' status doesn't affect this for adults that want to apply through residence.

Thanks for your responses. if I may ask one more question, the processing period of a Citizenship application is at least 3 months or more as per website. Can I apply for citizenship in October 2024, two months before the 12-month requirement is completed, so that I'll be eligible by the time my application is well underway?

Thanks

If by the time the caseworker looks at your application you haven't completed the 12 months from grant of ILR your application (unless you show strong links to the UK and the caseworker is satisfied) may be rejected. (See table linked by secret.simon for details). Why not wait for a couple more months?

For nationality applications there are no fast track options. All requirements must have been fulfilled by the date you apply. They are not immigration applications. Do you have an urgent target to meet?
