10 yrs visit visa for Parent

Post by lokd » Wed Dec 13, 2023 8:05 am

Dears,
My parent already traveled to UK 3 times on standard visa(Every visit stayed for allowed 6 months except during covid lock down but we got exceptional assurance for it). Now I wish to apply visit visa but this time for 10 years visit visa.

1. My PBS visa is expiring on June next year & am due for ILR that time as well. In this case can I apply for 10 years visit visa for my parent? Or should I go for 6 months visit visa as did before and do 5/10 yrs visit visa next time. I.e after getting ILR?
2. If it's OK to apply for 10 yrs visit now itself then how much do I need to show for 'proof of funds' in my bank a/c & in my parent a/c?
3. What will be the worst case scenario if I apply for 10 yrs visit visa before ILR? Is there a chance they doubt the intention to stay back? My parent is Retd. Government servant so can show strong ties to India with pension book.

But still worried on rejection.. don't want to ruin the chance of traveling here 😔

Kindly advise on all the above. Thanks in advance

You can go ahead and apply for 10 years. Your planned ILR has no special connotations attached to it. The rules and requirements are the same for 6 months, 2 years, 5 or 10 years. They just have different validity timeframes.

Apply as you've been applying before and use same docs.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Thanks a lot for your response.

Regarding 'proof of funds', when I apply for 6 months visit visa I used to mention 3000 GBP against the questions 'How much money are you personally planning to spend on your visit to the UK?'. So when applying for 10 yrs visit visa should I increase this amount or same should be fine? Please advise. Thanks.

10yrs visa does not mean they are coming to to stay for that duration at a stretch, only reduces frequency of applying for visa but still bound to not more than 6months at a go in UK for every visit.
So the same should be fine except of you have more to show and that can be supported easily by evidence.

Have they had a a 2 or 5 year visit visa before? If that is a no - then you are certainly not going to get a ten year visit visa.
The other reason that is a barrier is the age of the visitor, if they are elderly there is less of a possibility of getting extended visit visas

Tons of people don't go from 6 months to maybe 2-5, then 10. Some people apply for 2 at their very first try. Some get 10 years after 6 months. There's no rule that says one is a prerequisite for another.
The other reason that is a barrier is the age of the visitor, if they are elderly there is less of a possibility of getting extended visit visas How can that remotely even be a thing? I know 80 years old that have applied and gotten 10 years visa. You can never discriminate based on age, race, religion and blah blah blah.

There is absolute discrimination on age, country of origin and a general rule of overcoming certain barriers depending on the country of origin. There is a vast difference between say a New Zealander and a Pakistani applicant. If you believe otherwise you are naïve and ignoring the reality of applications from those respective countries.

An 80 year old applicant from those respective nations does not get treated the same way.

Similarly, Home Office Right to Rent evictions exempt from the Equality Act
However, nationality discrimination is an inherent part of immigration enforcement, so the Equality Act 2010 contains an exemption for discriminatory acts which are done by the Secretary of State for the Home Department or an authorised official. Ms Goloshvili argued that her case was not covered by the exemption, but Spencer J rejected her argument:
By reason of paragraph 17 (2) of Schedule 3, section 29 of the Act, which is the relevant provision for the purposes of this claim, does not apply to anything done by a relevant person in the exercise of functions exercisable by virtue of a relevant enactment. The paragraph is expressly applicable to race discrimination on grounds of nationality.

Refund delay for priority fee

Post by lokd » Fri Feb 23, 2024 4:55 pm

Hi All,

We applied Visitor visa for my parent on priority service (decision within 5 working days) while submitting the Visa application. However received the decision later than SLA days.
Emailed UKVI (ukvi.visa.pvspv.customerrefundrequests@homeoffice.gov.uk) for refund with explanation but now it is more than a month but still not received the refund or any response from them. Tried dropping reminder to them, also contacted the helpline number but they said only the mentioned email is there for any escalation on refund related matters.

Any pointers on the same please? TIA 🙏
