Spouse visa renewal start date

Post by joshhenson360 » Sat Dec 23, 2023 2:53 pm

Hello,

I was just wondering when a spouse visa renewal starts; is it the application or the approval date?

What I mean is, if the application was submitted on the 1st April and approved on the 1st June, would the start date be April or June (and the end date October or December)?

Thanks,
Josh

Out of interest, why does this question matter to you? Are you worried your current visa will expire before your new one is issued? If so it shouldn't be an issue as once you have submitted in application, you are protected under section 3c https://freemovement.org.uk/what-is-sec ... migration/

If you are wondering about start date because you want to calculate end date, I -think- it works based on your date of application. They will add 2 years + 6 months onto it and up to 28 days on top of that providing you had up to 28 days left on your existing visa on the date of application.

E.g. if you apply on 1 April 2024 and your BRP expires on 5 May 2024 (i.e. you have more than 28 days leave left), then they will take 1 April 2024 and add 2 years + 6 months + 28 days = 29 Oct 2026 new expiry date.

At least that's how I understand it, but I am just an applicant, not an expert :P.

The new visa start date is the date of approval and not the application date.

Please re-read what I said, I did not say the "start date is the application date".

However, my understanding was that the new visa end date is 2 years + 6 months after the application date. Are you suggesting that this is wrong and that the end date is actually going to be 2 years + 6 months after the approval date?
