Applying British nationality for my kids using MN1 form

Post by Nazjab » Mon Jan 08, 2024 12:52 pm

Hello everyone,

Hope you all are doing good. I have few questions regarding my kid's application for british nationality using MN1 form.
My two kids have born in UK
First kid- April 2022
Second kid- Nov 2023
I have got ILR after their birth in late Nov 2023.

I have never applied for my kids Indian passport or BRP as they have not travelled outside the uk.

Now, I am.going to apply for British nationality for my kids usking MN1 form.
1.It's asking five years address history . But my kids are less than 5 years. Eldest is 20 months old and younger one is 2 months old. Do I need to tick stayed at this address for 5 years " YES" . If I am ticking No, then the online.form.is asking previous address history of 5 years.
2. Which nationality do I need to mention for my kids. As they don't have any passport or nationality identity card from India. They have only UK born birth certificate from.UK.
3. Gp and health visitor has refused to give as referee. So, I have taken other two adult referees one is teacher British and other British.

Please asnwer my questions.
Thank you

You need to supply an ID document for them to apply I believe. So apply for Indian passport. I believe tehy are of Indian nationality.

Please be aware that if your kids don't have a valid visa they can't use the NHS for free as they are considered visitors. You probably should consider arranging for private health insurance while you wait for the outcome of their registration in case they need urgent care.

You dont need an indian pasaport to apply. Use their birth certificates.

You can still state Indian and select no where it asks for passport.

Hi @Nazjab,

I have the same situation as you and would love to get advise on what to fill in some tricky questions.
Firstly, could you please let me know if you have submitted and received a response? or know roughly how long it takes? Is there a priority service?
Few questions related to application form below, would really appreciate your help!
1. For the Q, You are unable to provide your passport with your application because - You have never had a passport (for example, because you were born in the UK) - I am guessing that's what you must have chosen?
2. For national identity card, when i mention 'No' for valid and expired card and also 'No' for travel document, I get the Q 'Why I am unable to provide a valid form of identification'. What did you respond to that question?
3. Also, what document do we provide for national identity card or travel document? I dont have anything.
4. For the Q, Are you relying on your parent's permanent residence (either as an EEA National or the family member of an EEA National) as evidence of their settled status in the United Kingdom? - what should we answer as its not EEA related?
5. Do we need to add any immigration details?
6. Proof of responsibility for both parents - would the birth certificate suffice?
7. What should be the content of the letter of consent?

Thanks,
Fatema

Op posted three days ago .... and hasn't even applied yet ....

These are nationality applications .... not visa applications.
Target for processing is 6 months (could be faster sometimes longer).
No priority services available.

Why not keep an eye on the MN1 Timeline thread?
british-citizenship/mn1-registration-ap ... l#p2145486
NOTE that thread is for timelines only - not general discusssion.
