Can we apply for Schengen visa while on a UK tourist visa?

Hi,
I have ILR in the UK, and planning to bring my parents from India to the UK on tourist visa. Most likely will be approved as they have visited the UK in the past.
My question is would it be possible for for my parents to apply for a Schengen visa to visit Italy from within the UK whilst on a UK tourist visa?
Or do they have to get their Schengen visa from India before travelling to the UK.

Do let me know if anyone has done this before or Please direct me to any past post if this query has already been answered.

They need to apply in India before travelling. As part of the Schengen visa process within the UK, they have to prove they have residence in the UK (BRP card for example), which they don't have.
