applying for child British Passport

Post by naznin007 » Sun Jun 16, 2024 8:09 pm

Hi , i hope everyone doing well, i have a question regarding my son's British Passport. Right now, he's holding indefinite leave to remain (ILR), he got it through a child born in uk under the 7 year route.
My question is as follows :-
1. How soon i can apply for his British passport?
2. What documents i need to submit,
3. Do I need to do his neutralisation ?

What is the immigrarion status of the parents?

Where was the child born?

The child is not British yet. Only a British citizen can apply for a British passport.

The parents' Immigration status is Refugee leave to remain, which was valid until March 5, 2024. Now, they have applied for Indefinite leave to remain. The child was born on August 12, 2016, in London, UK. When the child turns 7 years old, he has been applied independently under the 7-year citizenship ground. Currently, he has the ILR.

You can only register the child as British on form MN1 once either parent is granted ILR.

You can only register the child as British on form MN1 once either parent is granted ILR.
So, in that case, he can’t apply for a British passport individually, as an independent candidate? And what is MN1?

MN1 is the application form.
Not sure what you mean by independent candidate? Child can apply once a parent has been granted ILR. Child”s claim to citizenship depend you parent’s ILR.

Child can apply for citizenship when a parent gets ILR - that is one of the requirements, if this is what you mean by "independent candidate". Note that ILR and citizenship are different processes, governed by separate bodies of law.

A UK-born child may be entitled to register for British citizenship when s/he reaches 10 years old.
